RAF/FAA Immersion Suit White Leather Flying Helmet

This wartime White Leather Flying Helmet is a rare version of the Fleet Air Arm C-Type Zip Ear Helmet.

Originally it formed part of a leather one-piece immersion suit which was found to be unpopular with Air Crew.
Rather than destroy the suits as a whole, a Ministry decision was taken to remove the helmets for further use.

Made from treated white tanned cape leather which is water repellent.

The helmet is made in a very similar pattern to the standard later type FAA zip ear helmet, although this helmet has a leather neck flap and is unlined.
The inside shows some staining but this is mainly from being worn and some glue residue on strips covering press studs, from when the helmet was made.

The size is a 3.

The white leather is in a very good supple condition but has some staining to the rear (see photos).
The zip ears are very good with working zips and pullers.
Inside these have black foam inserts and original 10A/13466 Air Ministry marked earphone/receivers, plus rubber connections for fitting Gosport Tubes.

All the goggle straps and press stud fasteners work and the elastic chin strap is good.

A complete internal tan coloured wiring loom is fitted with jack plug all in very good condition.

A very good and rare helmet, the type which is often missing from collections.
