RAF Lancaster Auto Pilot Lever

RAF Lancaster bomber Auto Pilot Clutch Lever.

Situated next to pilot on the left side of the cockpit (see last photo, the lever above the compass).

This lever would have been used to engage 'George' a wartime nick name given to the basic 'early type' of Auto Pilot fitted to the Lancaster.
This gave the pilot a slight rest at the controls, especially when flying on Operations, some of these lasting over 9 hours.

Air Ministry stamped Clutch Lever Mk IV, and with a Ref. No. 6H/571.

In a good used working condition.
