WW2, RAF Medal Group to - 207 Squadron Lancaster Bomber Air Gunner, Sgt. D. Wensley, K.I.A.
Lancaster, ME814 EM-E, Piloted by F/O J.G. Dallen, took off from RAF Spilsby (Lincolnshire) at 22.51 Hrs on the evening of Tuesday 18th July 1944.
Sgt. Douglas Wensley was the Rear Gunner.
207 Squadron were on a bombing raid to the key French Railway Junction at Revigny, Marne.
Early hours of Wednesday 19th July, en route to the target, the Lancaster was hit by accurate ground Flak.
Diving out of control it crashed between Lignon and Margerie-Hancourt some 48 km from the target.
Sadly, all of the Lancaster seven man crew were killed (except for the bomb aimer who managed to bail out and then evade capture).
With the lot are his medal group of three - 1939/45, France & Germany stars and War medal (all fine) plus named box of issue.
