RAF Squadron leader Tunic DFM with Research

A fine wartime RAF S/Ldr Tunic named to George Harold Charles Barnes, DFM.

The uniform tunic has a padded 'S' brevet, although Barnes had also qualified to wear the Air Gunner brevet.
His medal ribbons show that he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for gallantry.
This was awarded to him on 23/9/1941, as a Flight Sergeant flying with 51 Squadron on Whitley Bombers.

The tunic comes with some research which includes a copy photo of him in flying kit, copies of the ORB operations which he flew in Whitley's with 51 squadron, and a hand written letter by him.

His tunic is his last wartime dated one (1944) when he was a Squadron Leader.

His 'S' wireless operator brevet is the one worn by him throughout his wartime RAF service and shows signs of slight wear in a couple of places.
The tunic has brass VR collar badges and his medal ribbons which include the Aircrew Europe Star.

The approximate tunic size = 36" chest, 34" waist, 22 " sleeve.

It is in a very good condition with a couple of small moth repairs.
